Zombie Apocalypse · The story

The last lab, the last subject, the last hour

The world belongs to the undead now. In an abandoned laboratory, one infected test subject paces behind failing steel and glass, and the cure it was meant to prove sits unfinished. Finish it before the power dies.

In short: In Zombie Apocalypse a virus has turned most of the world, and the last lab chasing a cure has been abandoned after a horde breach. One test subject remains in a failing containment chamber. Your team must stabilise the bio-tech and administer the cure before the lab’s power runs out.

A virus went through the cities first, then the towns. By the time anyone understood it, most of the world had stopped being human.

One laboratory kept going. Its scientists were close, closer than anyone, to a cure. Their last experiments didn’t give them one; they gave them something far more dangerous, held in place by an experimental containment chamber.

Then the horde breached the building. The staff ran, and the lab went dark around the one subject they couldn’t take with them.

Now you are inside, sealed in the very room that houses that chamber. A few inches of steel and glass separate you from what’s inside, and the power keeping it shut is running out.

Stabilise the bio-tech, synthesise the cure and administer it. Only when the subject is secured does the door let you go. You have one hour.

A few inches of steel and glass. Not for long.

What to expect

Vials, dials and a chamber that won’t hold

Zombie Apocalypse is a working laboratory: sample stations, dosage controls, glowing vials and warning signs, all arranged around the containment chamber at the heart of the room. It is a horror game first, with sci-fi machinery doing the talking.

  • The aim is containment and a cure, not a dash for the door
  • Clues hide in plain sight; decoding them is the hard part
  • Theatrical haze, blackouts, strobing light and the odd jump scare
  • Difficulty 7 out of 10, for 2–4 players aged 15+

Made in-house

A laboratory built from scratch

Every vial, warning sign and control panel in Zombie Apocalypse was designed and built by Escape This, then installed in Northbridge, Sydney CBD and Melbourne CBD.

Escape This builds its rooms to movie-set standard. Here that means riveted steel panels, glowing readouts and a containment chamber that sounds very much occupied.

Dress for the end of the world

No costume is needed to face the subject. If your team wants to commit, a white lab coat or a survivor’s battered flannel suits the room, and comfortable shoes suit an hour on your feet.

FAQ

About the outbreak

What are we walking into at Zombie Apocalypse?

Zombie Apocalypse is a 60-minute horror escape room by Escape This, set in an abandoned laboratory after the undead have overrun the world. One infected test subject is pacing inside a failing containment chamber, and your team of two to four has to finish the cure before the power gives out. It plays in Northbridge (Perth), Sydney CBD and Melbourne CBD, and the infection spreads to Brisbane CBD in the first half of 2027.

Who is the creature behind the glass?

It is the lab’s last surviving test subject. In Zombie Apocalypse the scientists fled when a horde broke in, leaving this one infected patient sealed behind a few inches of steel and glass. You hear it snarling and pacing for the whole hour.

What went wrong in the laboratory?

A virus had already wiped out most of humanity, and this lab was the final serious push for a cure. Its experiments created something more dangerous than the disease, then the horde breached the building and the staff ran. Zombie Apocalypse starts in the deserted lab with the cure half made.

Do you really have to brew a cure?

Yes, that is the mission. Zombie Apocalypse asks your team to stabilise the lab’s volatile bio-tech, synthesise the antidote and administer it before containment fails. Sample stations, dosage controls and racks of glowing vials all feed into that one goal.

Will fans of The Walking Dead and The Last of Us like it?

They are exactly who Escape This recommends Zombie Apocalypse for, along with film and sci-fi lovers. The room shares the end-of-the-world dread of those stories, but the fight happens inside a lab: you are trying to cure the infection, not outrun it.

What should we wear?

Whatever you can move in. Zombie Apocalypse needs no costume, though a lab coat or a survivor’s flannel adds to the mood, and comfortable shoes help over an hour on your feet.
